What I am doing now

February 18, 2014 by Michael ODonnell (Register to contact)

On my 67th birthday (12/31/2011), I retired from the Federal Government after 37 1/2 years of service. I was a Supervisory Mathematical Statistician for the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition in College Park, Maryland. I headed the Statistical Applications Team, providing statistical support to research and regulatory scientists (chemists, biologists, toxicologists).

I now teach Statistics part-time at Howard Community College (HCC), Columbia, MD. I generally teach two sections back to back during the Fall and Spring terms and one during the,Winter Term. I enjoy bringing my FDA experience into the classroom, and the students like it as well. I have patterned my teaching style after Mrs. Donk, and it has been successful.

I also play the guitar and sing, mostly as a music minister at 4:30 PM Saturday Mass at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church here in Columbia. I have also performed at FDA and HCC..

Sadly, my beloved spouse Barbara Anne passes away on September 27, 2015 from recurrent non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. We were married for 47 years and were blessed with six children, now all adults. I enjoy spending time with them.
